Why Fulham attacker Luciano Vietto is set to thrive under Claudio Ranieri

Luciano Vietto shocked many this summer when the Atletico Madrid attacker joined Fulham on a season-long loan, yet the Argentine has struggled to excel at Craven Cottage.

Often utilised on the wings of a 4-3-3 formation under Slavisa Jokanovic, Vietto is set to thrive in a central role in Claudio Ranieri’s 4-4-2 system.

All of Vietto’s 10 Premier League appearances have been out wide, and the formation resulted in success during the opening months of the season.

In Fulham’s only win of the season, the 24-year-old thrived on the left side of a front three, delivering two assists as the Whites beat Burnley 4-2.

Vietto also chipped in with assists against Watford and Arsenal, yet in recent matches the Argentine has failed to make an impact on the wing and has looked largely anonymous.

The Atletico Madrid loanee has played the majority of his professional career as a centre-forward, and with Fulham’s new manager indicating he wants to play a 4-4-2 formation in SW6, Vietto surely must have been delighted.

Luciano Vietto is the ideal strike partner for Aleksandar Mitrovic, providing excellent service and penetrative runs alongside the Serbian frontman.

With a central role in Claudio Ranieri’s tried-and-tested 4-4-2 system, Luciano Vietto is primed to hit top form at Fulham and bag his first goal in England.
