Why Everton and Nottingham Forest got different point deductions
Simon Stone has now revealed why Everton and Nottingham Forest received different punishments for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
The Football Reporter for BBC Sport made the comments when taking part in a Q&A (question and answer) session.
So, what was said about Nottingham Forest and Everton? Let’s take a look…
Why Everton and Nottingham Forest received different point deductions
Well, Nottingham Forest were hit with a deduction of four points on Monday after breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
It comes after Everton were docked ten points back in November – a verdict which was later changed to six points in February following an appeal.
So, why have Nottingham Forest and Everton received different punishments?

Stone : “That is down to the Independent Commission on hearing the evidence. My understanding is there was no set sanction in Premier League rules because they didn’t want to be in a position where clubs could work out if it was worth a breach or not because that would not be healthy.
“Equally, with the Everton case, there was no real precedent. For the Forest one, there was. The Premier League wanted eight points as the overspend was bigger, less two because Forest co-operated. The Commission went with six, less two.”
Not over yet
Of course, Nottingham Forest have the right to appeal this decision.
If those at the City Ground choose to do so, it could mean some Premier League sides will not even be aware of their fate once the 2023/24 campaign is over.

A story from claims that any appeal from Nottingham Forest would end up being finalised on 24th May – five days after the season ends.
Therefore, those heading into a relegation battle on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign may have to wait to hear what the future holds, even beyond the end of this truly unique season.
