Why Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend must use his superb Burnley display to kickstart a goalscoring spree

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend enjoyed an excellent match on the weekend, providing an assist and a wonderful goal to hand the Eagles a 2-0 victory over Burnley.

Townsend must use his superb display to kickstart a goalscoring spree at Selhurst Park, building on his spotty goalscoring record at Palace.

Since signing from Newcastle United in 2016, Townsend has failed to score more than three Premier League goals in a season in SE25. His debut year brought three goals, followed by a two goal tally in 2017/18.

Yet the Englishman has the perfect opportunity to smash his previous records this season, as after netting against Chelsea in early November, Townsend now has two goals to his name.

Already equalling last season’s tally in well under half the matches, the 27-year-old surely must kick on and target a sizable goal tally in the league for Palace.

The Eagles need Townsend to step up now more than ever, with an over-reliance on Wilfried Zaha crippling Palace’s attack.

Added to the injury absence of Christian Benteke and the misfiring form of Alexander Sorloth, Townsend may be the goalscoring hero Roy Hodgson so desperately needs.

After Andros Townsend’s sumptuous strike against the Clarets equalled the winger’s 17/18 goal tally, the winger must use his newfound confidence to provide much-needed attacking production for Crystal Palace.
