Why Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka might be handed his first England call-up
On Wednesday, Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold from the England squad with a back injury, leaving Gareth Southgate without another key face in his team.
For Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the withdrawal of Alexander-Arnold could pave the way for the 21-year-old’s first senior Three Lions call-up.
Wan-Bissaka has been consistently excellent for the Eagles this season, starting 27 out of Palace’s 30 league matches and impressing with his stifling one-on-one defending.
Yet for all his good work in SE25, Wan-Bissaka has failed to catch Southgate’s eye, and was yet again selected for the England U-21s for the international break. By no means does that represent a lowly position for the 21-year-old, but considering his place as an undisputed starter at a Premier League club, one might expect Wan-Bissaka to find his way into the senior team.

For instance, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is in the England team, despite having failed to start a single league match all season — with just six top flight appearances to his name.
Now that Trent Alexander-Arnold is missing from Southgate’s plans this break, Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka must finally feel that it is his time for a senior call-up in order to add necessary depth to England.
