Why Callum Wilson isn’t the man Chelsea need to replace misfiring Alberto Morata
Chelsea have been in recent weeks, amidst Alvaro Morata’s continued poor run in form.
The Spaniard failed to score again on Saturday evening for the Blues as they were defeated by Tottenham at Wembley, and he was replaced on the hour mark by Pedro.
Morata has scored only five goals this season, and hit the target with less than 50% of his shots. As part of a team that was unbeaten until this weekend, it comes as little surprise that Chelsea are looking for a little more bang for their buck up top.
Wilson has six goals to his name so far this season for Bournemouth, and scored against the USA on his England debut last week.
He’s also provided four assists for his teammates, and been caught offside only eight times.
Though his goal return is very impressive – especially in a side with the resources of Bournemouth – Wilson is not the calibre of striker Chelsea should be targeting if Maurizio Sarri is serious about winning his first major trophy in management.
Wilson has attempted more shots this season than Morata, and hit the target with less.
The 26-year-old appears to have a come on leaps and bounds for Bournemouth this season, however he missed a plethora of chances for England before bagging his debut goal at Wembley.
Wilson may be beginning to establish himself as a top level striker in the Premier League, but Chelsea can’t afford to gamble on a player with little to no European experience.
