Why Alfredo Morelos could hand Newcastle big boost in chase for Italian striker

Alfredo Morelos has been strongly linked with a move from Rangers to Newcastle in recent months but the latest reports suggest he could be on his way to Italy – and that may help Newcastle in a different striker pursuit.

that Morelos was a target for Newcastle, having scored 29 goals last season for Rangers under the guidance of Steven Gerrard. He also laid on 10 assists, and netted in the Europa League.

However, recent links have gone cold – with Morelos now being linked with a move to Italian side Lazio. Lazio want to sign the 24-year-old, with Rangers rating him in the region of £18million.

Though such a move would see Newcastle miss out on Morelos, it would hand Newcastle a boost in their reported pursuit of Italy international Ciro Immobile – with the report saying Morelos is being eyed as potential replacement.

that Newcastle saw a mammoth £50million offer to sign Immobile rejected by Lazio – with the potential new owners keen to sign a striker that has scored 32 goals in 38 games.

It had been previously reported Newcastle had tabled the £50million bid, and were willing to splash £270,000 a week on Immobile until the summer of 2025. It made a deal worth £120million.

However, reports state that such a move was rejected. But with Morelos being eyed as Immobile’s replacement, surely Lazio could be much more willing to sanction a move for Immobile if they can sign Morelos.
