Who was your MOTM in Liverpool’s 3-1 win against Merseyside rivals Everton?

Liverpool hosted Everton in the 50th Premier League meeting between the two sides and both clubs came into the encounter knowing that a win would thrust them closer to a Champions League qualification spot. The two Merseyside teams are engaged in the battle for top-four, with Liverpool starting the day in fourth and Everton just six points behind them.

Jurgen Klopp picked a strong, experienced line-up, with Lucas Leiva replacing the injured Adam Lallana, while Ronald Koeman’s Everton side was littered with academy products. Meanwhile, Tom Davies, Matthew Pennington and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all started for the Toffees.

The home side took the lead through Sadio Mane eight minutes in and they dominated for the first 30 minutes. Yet, it was Everton who scored next as Matthew Pennington scored his first Premier League goal to level the scoreline.

The 1-1 scoreline would only last two minutes, however, as Philippe Coutinho found the back of the net with a wonderful effort. Everton never really got going after the Brazilian’s strike and they fell two goals behind when Coutinho found Divock Origi and the Belgian beat Joel Robles from the edge of the box in the 60th minute.

Klopp’s side maintained control from start to finish and claimed a valuable 3-1 win over their local rivals. Both sides now move on to other challenges, with Liverpool hosting Bournemouth and Everton travelling to Manchester United, but first, who was your man of the match in Liverpool’s Merseyside derby victory?
