Who was your Man of the Match in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Sutton United?
Arsenal travelled to Gander Green Lane to play Sutton in their FA Cup Fifth Round tie. The Gunners came into the game off the back of their 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich which made this fixture a must win.
The tie had all the features of a classic cup tie, with Sutton’s ground having small, classical changing rooms and a pitch that the Arsenal players would not have been all too familiar with. Gander Green Lane is one of few English grounds to have a synthetic pitch.
After such a big build-up, Arsenal ruined Sutton’s hopes of a quarter-final tie against fellow non-league side as the Gunners won 2-0, thanks to goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott.
The scoreline suggests the game was easier than it actually was, however, as Roarie Deacon thundered the ball against the crossbar and the South London side squirmed the few opportunities that they managed to create.
Arsenal’s quality managed to see them over the line on a night where the final result was certainly more crucial than the performance.
