Who is Franck Kessie, the Ivory Coast international that Manchester United and Chelsea are fighting for?
In August it seemed that Franck Kessie could be set to sign for Sunderland, but after failing to get a work permit the move fell apart, and now the 20-year-old could be headed to one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs claim the . A number of top clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked, with the little known Ivory Coast international looking increasingly likely to move to England sooner rather than later.
What would he bring to the Premier League?
Likened by many to Manchester City hero Yaya Toure in style, Kessie is a powerful midfielder who usually plays in a holding role. That said, it may come as a surprise to know that he has scored seven goals in 17 games this season thanks to his set piece specialties and superb finishing from distance. The strong central midfielder is tough tackling and can play in a more advanced midfield role or in central defence if needed, but is most at home in a holding midfield role.
Is a move likely?
Very. Kessie’s agent has already spoken about the huge interest in him from the Premier League and seems keen on a deal, with Chelsea already reported to be meeting with his representatives to discuss the details of a deal. Atlanta are doing well and currently sit sixth in Serie A, and the Ivorian has four and a half years left on his contract, but the Italian club are likely to be tempted to cash in should a big offer come their way.
Verdict
9/10 – A move seems almost certain for Kessie, with the Premier League the most likely destination. It seems that the player is in no rush and there will be plenty of fighting over where he will end up, but both Chelsea and Manchester United seem to be prepared to go all out for the midfielder.
