Which club is pushing harder to sign Wilfried Gnonto… Everton or West Ham

Wilfried Gnonto has been subject of plenty of speculation during this January transfer window.

The Italian is said to be a target for both West Ham and Everton this month.

Speaking on , Phil Hay has shared an update on Gnonto’s current situation, and he’s stated that Everton, not West Ham, are the team making the strongest play for Gnonto at the moment, despite recent reports stating that the player is expected to sign for the Hammers.

Everton pushing harder for Gnonto

Hay shared what he knows about the attacker.

“It is strange that it keeps bubbling. He’s not had a great season Gnonto, he’s not on the list of Player of the Year contenders and what happened in the summer wasn’t good for him. He was told that if he wasn’t playing in the Premier League his place in the Italy squad would be at risk. Everton seem to be the club that are making the biggest play for him, but they are in a fair amount of trouble to say the least,” Hay said.

Difficult

Gnonto would be a very interesting signing for Everton to make, but we can’t see this one happening.

The Toffees have just been charged by the Premier League for an FFP breach, they’d be playing a very dangerous game if they were now to go out and spend a decent fee on a player while under such scrutiny from the league for their spending.

Of course, Everton will know internally a lot more about their accounting situation, so this deal could well be possible, but as Hay says, the Merseyside club are in hot water right now, and their focus may well be elsewhere.

Don’t be shocked if Gnonto moves to another club this month as both Everton and West Ham are said to be keen.
