Whether Arsenal now owe West Ham more Declan Rice cash after UEFA Champions League win over Real Madrid

West Ham fans must have felt proud at the sight of Declan Rice dominating Real Madrid inside the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Arsenal No.41 – who started out in defence at West Ham before moving into midfield – bossed the likes of Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde on his way to securing a second consecutive UEFA Champions League Man of the Match award.

As a result, the England international’s efforts have helped Arsenal into the last four of the UEFA Champions League, a development which has led many to wonder whether such an achievement will see West Ham receive more cash from the Gunners in bonus payments, having sold Declan Rice to the north Londoners in July 2023.

West Ham will not make any additional cash after Arsenal defeat Real Madrid

Unfortunately for the Hammers, they will not benefit financially from Rice, who has dazzled the Spanish press, and Arsenal reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

A senior spokesman for West Ham’s board exclusively told after the first leg: “No, we are not due any extra money from Arsenal if they win the Champions League.

“We only get £1m each time they qualify for the Champions League – and a maximum of five times. The deal was £100m plus five £1m Champions League qualifications add-on payments.”

Arsenal are – at least – very likely to qualify for the competition regardless of what happens against PSG in the last four, as they sit second in the Premier League, meaning another £1m payment should come the way of West Ham.

Declan Rice escapes unpunished

Rice, who impressed Rio Ferdinand, was walking on thin ice during the clash against Real Madrid, as a yellow card would have seen him suspended for the semi-final against PSG.

Despite a scare after Francois Letexier wrongly booked him for fouling Kylian Mbappe – before VAR overturned the decision – the West Ham academy graduate managed to avoid a yellow card, and will be pleased to hear that UEFA wipe the slate clean for the last four.

Therefore, Rice can play freely against the French giants in the semi-final, although Thomas Partey is suspended after a foolish yellow card received for dissent.
