Whether Arsenal are actually trying to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool before deadline day
- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Before Friday’s transfer deadline, Arsenal supporters probably wouldn’t have been expecting to suddenly be linked with a move for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
Since coming to the Premier League, Nunez has been nothing but blockbuster, a player who Arne Slot hasn’t used too significantly in his new era.
Nunez has only played 18 minutes for Liverpool so far this season, a player who many of the club’s supporters thought would be crucial under the new regime.
And at a time in which Arsenal are often linked with a move for a striker, especially considering Gabriel Jesus’ injury, the Gunners are now being tipped for a late Nunez pursuit.
That being said, TBR Football understands that right now, Arsenal are not planning to bring in a new striker before Friday’s deadline, despite any Nunez reports.
Arsenal have assessed their options throughout the summer but it is understood that Mikel Arteta is willing to head into the rest of this year without another striker.
That is a decision that will hold firm regardless of Eddie Nketiah’s imminent departure, who is set to finalise a move to Crystal Palace.
Arsenal won’t be signing Darwin Nunez or Victor Osimhen before deadline day
Arteta’s side have been linked with a host of names this summer including Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and now Nunez, but TBR is told that a new striker won’t be arriving this week.
Mikel Merino could be Arsenal’s final arrival of the summer, but the club are still looking for a new right-winger to provide extra back-up to Bukayo Saka.

And after agreeing to sell Nketiah, Arsenal are likely to keep Reiss Nelson, who could now be handed considerable minutes across the season.
In terms of Liverpool’s own aspirations to improve their squad, the club are considering adding to their attacking options before Friday.
Slot’s side have held talks about a prospective deal for Federico Chiesa, who has also been loosely linked with Arsenal this summer.
So whilst some supporters in north London may have been quite excited about the prospect of Nunez playing under Arteta, that’s unlikely to be a reality in the near future.
It would be a big surprise were the 25-year-old not to be a Liverpool player come the weekend, when he may even be poised to play a considerable role at Old Trafford.
