Where Tottenham’s Son Heung-min, Micky van de Ven & Pedro Porro ranked in top 100 players
Tottenham haven’t played Champions League football for several years now and they are hoping to make a return under Ange Postecoglou.
Yet, several Spurs players have been ranked in the top 100 players right now, with perhaps some surprising omissions.
Cristian Romero has had a mixed start to the new season, but he has been a key player for the London club and recently won the Copa America with Argentina this summer.
Whilst Son Heung-min, Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro were included in ‘s top 100 players right now, Romero was snubbed.
The top five was dominated by Real Madrid and Manchester City players, with Ballon d’Or contender Vinicius Jr coming out first, goal machine Erling Haaland second and England’s Jude Bellingham third.
If you asked the Spurs fans, they would probably be divided as to who is their best player right now, or even their most important.
Brennan Johnson can’t stop scoring, but it wasn’t so long ago that he was deactivating social media after a poor showing in the north London derby.
Son was ranked 92nd in FourFourTwo’s list, with ex-Spurs midfielder Luka Modric, now 39, starting off proceedings and coming in at 100.
Not so long after, van de Ven was included, 85th on the list, including ahead of Inter star, Alessandro Bastoni.
But the Tottenham player who came above everybody else was none other than Porro, he was placed 64th ahead of Denzel Dumfries and Ben White.
Pedro Porro ranked highest amongst Tottenham stars in top 100 players right now
On Son: “The dip in form Son Heung-min suffered under Antonio Conte feels a long time ago now,” said FourFourTwo. “Since Ange Postecoglou rocked up at Tottenham. Son has managed to get back to his best form. Harry Kane’s departure made him the main man in North London and the South Korean has taken the responsibility in his stride.”
On van de Ven: “It’s no coincidence that Tottenham’s 2023/24 season suffered when Micky van de Ven picked up an injury,” explained FourFourTwo. “His searing pace at the back allows Spurs to play a high line and underpins the teams wider tactical approach. His incredible assist against Manchester United in September showed just how good he is with the ball at his feet as well. Easily one of the best young defenders in Europe.”
On Porro: “A very modern full-back,” wrote FourFourTwo. “And yes, by which we mean he is unbelievably attacking to the extent that his defensive work sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. But there’s no faulting Porro’s application, and after a difficult start to life at Tottenham, he has become one of the most notable right-backs in the division. At 25 years old, his prime years may still be ahead of him too.”

Who is the first name on Tottenham’s teamsheet right now?
Not many would have predicted it, but Johnson is probably the first name on Tottenham’s teamsheet right now.
On paper, Van de Ven would be seen as the most important at Spurs because of how he can defend such open spaces and with such a high defensive line.

Yes, Tottenham’s defeat to Brighton before the international break left many surprised and the defence getting pelters.
But on its day it has proven to be one of the best in the Premier League, it’s now a case of showing it on a more consistent basis.
