When Ange Postecoglou is expecting to be told about his Tottenham future by Daniel Levy

TBR Football understands that Ange Postecoglou’s people are expecting a decision to be made over his future at Tottenham Hotspur this week.

It is set to be a decisive week in N17 as the future of Ange Postecoglou will be determined by chairman Daniel Levy.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left in the dark over what is next at the football club in what should be a time of celebration in North London.

But now, the chairman is expected to deliver clarity over the situation by either sticking by his manager or making him his 16th managerial casualty in 24 years.

Tottenham working on Ange Postecoglou replacements

Levy decided that he was going to sack Postecoglou several weeks ago, however, Tottenham’s Europa League-winning campaign has given him some thinking to do, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Bailey told TBR Football: “The question that Daniel Levy is asking himself is whether to stick with Ange Postecoglou or not. I am told he decided to part company with him weeks ago after their worst league season in generations.

“But the Europa League win does give him food for thought. But is it enough to paper over some massive cracks? I am not sure. There is no getting away from the fact Spurs are working on options, which is logical – if they do change, they know the market and who is available, and who wants the job.”

Tottenham’s managerial targets

Spurs have long been working on replacements for the 59-year-old and are now well-versed on the manager market should they opt to part ways with him.

TBR Football revealed back in January that Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola were targets. Now we understand that Brentford are worried about Spurs’ pursuit of Frank, as the North London club views him as the ideal fit for the job.

Frank has a £9m release clause in West London, which Spurs would need to trigger should they opt to pursue the Dane.

The big Ange Postecoglou worry facing Daniel Levy

Bailey has told TBR Football that Tottenham are concerned about having to make a managerial change a couple of months into the season.

Levy will be conscious of what happened at Manchester United last season when the Red Devils kept Erik ten Hag after he won the FA Cup, only to sack him in October.

Despite winning their first European trophy since 1984, the Lilywhites also endured their worst ever Premier League campaign as they finished 17th with 38 points.

Bailey added: “After their previous major trophy, Juande Ramos, who won the League Cup, lasted just two months, and this is the worry if they stick with Ange and he has a bad start to the new season.

“It’s similar to Man United and Erik Ten Hag – they didn’t want him but stuck with him because of the FA Cup win, do Spurs do similar?

“I really don’t believe that Levy really wants Ange in charge, and personally, I would be shocked if he stays, not impossible, but unlikely as we speak.”
