‘What you want from every player’: Michael Ball wowed by £100k-a-week Everton ace

Everton icon Michael Ball has waxed lyrical about Toffees midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson following his improved form for Carlo Ancelotti’s side as well as for his nation.

Sigurdsson endured some criticism last season but has looked much better this term, making seven appearances in all competitions.

The 31-year-old came off the bench for Everton’s first three Premier League games of the season before starting against Brighton and getting an assist in the 4-2 win.

In the League Cup, meanwhile, Sigurdsson has played 90 minutes as captain in each of the three games, claiming a goal and two assists along the way.

The ace is currently on international duty with Iceland and has shone for them too, netting twice in the 2-1 European championship playoff win over Romania.

“Gylfi Sigurdsson at the minute is showing what you want from every player,” Ball wrote in the .

“Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep us up at the top of the table and he wants the whole squad to keep the pressure on the first team.

“We brought players in to get us to the next level and they’re doing well, while others are getting the opportunity to come on during games and show they’re willing to fight for the shirt.

“All you want from every player is to go out and represent the club, while you’re away with your country, in the best way possible. Play for your country, come home, and be ready to do the same in a blue shirt.”

Everton’s season so far has been virtually flawless, with a perfect record, some emphatic wins, and plenty of lovely football.

Ancelotti’s signings have hit the ground running but, at the same time, most of the players who were already at the club have improved in form.

With Sigurdsson’s first-team spot no longer guaranteed, he has worked hard to remain in the manager’s plans and it’s showing – just what you love to see.
