What would Borussia Dortmund’s Jakub Blaszczykowski offer Southampton?

Polish winger, Jakub Blaszczykowski could be set to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer with Southampton one of the Premier League clubs supposedly .

Poland bowed out of Euro 2016 on penalties against eventual tournament winners, Portugal but Blaszczykowski produced when called upon by his country.

Much of the nations’ hopes throughout had rested on Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski’s shoulders but it was Blaszczykowski who produced moments of brilliance to help his country progress through the earlier stages of the tournament.

The pacey winger was sent on loan to Fiorentina from Borussia Dortmund last season, where he played 15 times and scored twice and this movement portrays the thought that the Pole’s time at the club is over.

Now with the player apparently set to discuss his future with BVB, Southampton are one of the clubs understood to be interested in prizing the winger away from the Westfalenstadion.

Despite signing Nathan Redmond already this summer, the Saints still lack a player that is both quick and experienced in European competitions.

Sadio Mane had Europa League experience following his time at Red Bull Salzburg but his departure has left the south coast club thin on the ground in terms of genuine experience in Europe.

Blaszczykowski would provide pace, skill and a much needed direct approach on right of midfield for Southampton.

Whilst Dusan Tadic is able to provide skill and flair, Blaszczykowski can trouble defences with his speed, which matches perfectly with manager, Claude Puel’s emphasis on fast full-backs and wingers.

One advantage that should be targeted by Puel is Blaszczykowski’s potential to mentor Redmond during the ex-Norwich winger’s early career at St Mary’s.

If the rumours that Puel is ready to offload Cuco Martina are true, then a space would open up at right-back behind Cedric Soares.

Blaszczykowski could provide both cover for Cedric and would make a perfect starter in the void that Mane left on the right.

Southampton’s transfer window is far from over and whilst there is mere speculation about this move happening, the winger is certainly within the budget of the Hampshire-based club, valued at £6million.
