Report: Tottenham feel one summer arrival only came because of Conte, club feel he offers ‘best mix’
Things haven’t exactly got going for new Tottenham defender, Djed Spence, w൩ho🐼 arrived at the club in the summer from Middlesbrough.
Spence was a key player for Nottingham Forest as they made their way through the Championship playoffs to win🤡 a place back in the top flight under Steve Cooper. But despite Forest being clear that they wanted to sign Spence, it was Spurs who swooped in to land the England under-21 star.

However, he has barely featured. Antonio Conte admitted in pre-season he was a signing for the future and according to , those inside Spurs feel Spence only actually signed because of Conte. FL reports how there is a feeling within the club that Spence has been signed purely because Conte is the one who can extract the very best from him. It’s claimed Spence – in the long-term🧜 – could offer Conte the best mix of🌊 attacking and defensive play.
Of course, Spence faces a t꧃ough task getting into the XI right now. Emerson Royal has been picked ahead of him while a returning Mat Dꦓoherty is likely to cause further issues.
Spence played well as England under-21s defeated Italy last night. Interestingly, he came up against another Spurs newbie in that game in Des🌌tiny Udogie.
TBR’s View: Spence’s Time Will Come If He Knuckles Down
We all saw h🌼ow good Djed Spence could be last season in the Championship. And while it’s a step up into the Premier League, there is so much to like about him.
Big, strong, quick, and capable both in his own third and the final third, Spence ticks so many ๊boxes. It’s easy to see why Spurs have signed him, especially with Conte in charge.
For now though, Spence simply needs to buckle down an🅰d work hard. He’ll get his chance if he sticks at it under Conte and essentially, he’s no other option unless he wants to be cast aside.
