What Thomas Tuchel has previously said about Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi as he closes in on England job
Thomas Tuchel is set to become the new England manager.
The Three Lions are set to head into a new era, and Tuchel is th♈e man who has been chosen to lead England after Gareth Southgate’s departure.
Tuchel arrived at St George’s Park as an elite manager, and there are plenty of players in the England pool who the German knows well.
Tuchel has already worked with the likes of Reece James, Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling during his time at Chelsea, while he’s also worked alongside Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi has been ever-improving over the past 18 months with Nottingham Forest, so much so that Tottenham wanted to sign Hudson-Odoi at one point.
Now that T🍬uchel is set to become England manager, Hudson-Odoi’s international prospects could improve, but, intᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚerestingly, the German often saw the winger playing in a different position.

Thomas Tuchel saw Callum Hudson-Odoi as a wing-back
During his time at Chelsea, .
Tuchel said that Hudson-Odoi is capable of play🃏ing in that position on either side, and perhaps that’s a role he could be utilised in with England.
“He is able to play as a right wing-bac♚k, left wing-back, he can play in these extra positions, he knows the group and we know him very well,” Tuchel said.
“For him personally it would maybe have been a very🌠 good opportunity but for us it was simply impossible.”
Tuchel would admit l﷽ater in the season that it was sometimes unfair to play Hudson-Odoi as a wing-back
‘Was it always fair to let him play as a wing-back? No, maybe not. He had to 🌄take this for the team and he did. He was always positive. He showed the right spirit,” ♛Tuchel said.
‘He had a very good pre-season where 🌞we could see what he was capable of on the left side. He struggled a bit in the beginning to prove that point during matches but now with the injuries it was𝐆 needed to show up and deliver.
‘𒁏This is what he did, it’s wh🃏at he needed to get a place in the team. It is all about performance, that is what he shows in the moment.
What Hudson-Odoi said about Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel is clearly a fan of Hudson-Odoi in that wing-back role, but the same can’t be said the ജother way around.
Indeed, Hudson-Odoi admitted that he’s not🥀 a fan of playing in that position when speaking to a couple of years ago.
“At times, it was okay. But so🍃metimes in my head, I’m thinking, ‘What am I doing, why am I in this position? I’m more defending than attacking’” Hudson-Odoi said.
“No matter where I was playing, I was always trying to do my best and helpও the team — it’s not always about myself. I never argued; I just got on with it.
“But in order to get the best out of yourself, you have to play where you can feel most comfortable and do what yo♊u can do best.”
H🎃udson-Odoi did then say that he did like Tꦑuchel as a manager.
“I would never bad mouth or say anything bad about him. He was always a good guy, a good man, on the pitch and off the pitch. It was just with so many great players in the team, you have to obviously fight for your positi♚on and work your hardest.
“It was de🔯finitel🍌y difficult at times with him but you have to get on with it and do what you can.”
Hudson-Odoi will be hoping to get back into the England team under Tuchel,🃏 and as 🍬much as he doesn’t like playing as a wing-back, he may have to swallow his pride here if he wants some international recognition.
England have a serious left-back problem, and perhaps the Nottingham Forest star could be the answer in a wing-back role under Tuchel. After all, Ashley Cole has previously praised Hudson-ꦦOdo🔯i highly.
