What ‘sources with knowledge of the situation’ now say about Crystal Palace and the Europa League after UEFA meeting
Crystal Palace fans are currently facing a nervous wait.
The 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final not only secured a first major trophy for the Eagles, but also resulted in qualification for the UEFA Europa League next season.
It is set to be the first time Crystal Palace have ever competed in European football, but there is a problem after Lyon also qualified for the UEFA Europa League, due to the fact John Textor has involvement in both clubs.
UEFA have rules forbidding individuals involved in multiple clubs to partake in the same competition, due to a potential conflict of interests, and the have now provided an update on the situation.
When Crystal Palace can expect UEFA decision
Steve Parish, Josh Harris, David Blitzer and Textor were in Switzerland on Tuesday for a meeting with UEFA, where the latter planned to show officials he does not have a controlling interest in Crystal Palace.
The American does hold a 45% stake in the south Londoners, but ‘is not entitled to a vote on footballing decisions’ according to the BBC.
Crucially, fans just want to know how long this process will take, as no UEFA Europa League football would impact on revenue and, consequently, recruitment in the transfer window, but the BBC have an answer.
In a new update, they write: “The meeting ended without a decision, but it is understood from sources with knowledge of the situation that a final ruling from European football’s governing body should come in the next week or so.”
