What sources expect to happen this weekend with Marc Guehi after Newcastle make record breaking bid

Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has taken a real boost over recent days with the pursuit of Marc Guehi really beginning to heat up.

It has been a quiet summer on Tyneside with Eddie Howe‘s publicly sharing his feelings about Newcastle‘s lack of business.

But the Toon are now looking to make a blockbuster move in the market with Crystal Palace’s Guehi a player of real interest.

Newcastle have already sent over three offers to Palace for Guehi in recent weeks but none of them have landed in south London and been accepted.

Given the injury issues Newcastle have in defence going into the new campaign, it is no surprise Howe is pushing for the England centre-back to be signed.

Guehi’s impressive performances at Euro 2024 have not helped Newcastle’s hopes of landing him for under £60m but they did demonstrate what an important player they could add to their side.

With that being said, TBR Football understands that Newcastle have now made a club record bid for Guehi and are confident of finalising a deal this weekend.

Newcastle lodge club-record bid for Marc Guehi

With Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles both absent from the start of the 2024/25 campaign, Newcastle’s options at the back are already being stretched.

The only noteworthy signing of the summer for the Magpies has been Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer in what has otherwise been a hugely underwhelming summer.

Guehi has already made his position clear that he wants to move to St James’ Park but he has had to wait to see if a deal could be agreed.

Now with their fourth bid for the player, TBR can confirm that Newcastle’s bid is close to Crystal Palace’s asking price of £65million and sources believe it is now a matter when a deal happens, rather than if.

It is believed the latest bid is worth in excess of £60m and the add-ons take the move close to the £65m mark.

Newcastle had shown an interest in signing Malick Thiaw from AC Milan earlier in the window but those suggestions have now faded away.

Paul Mitchell had also entered Newcastle into the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo but West Ham United have since secured his signature.

What Steve Parish has said about selling Marc Guehi

For obvious reasons, Steve Parish will be desperate to keep Guehi at Selhurst Park having already lost Michael Olise earlier in the summer.

And Parish has already warned clubs they are going to have to cough up big if they are wanting to sign Guehi over the final two weeks of the window.

“Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money,” he said.

“It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He’s a generational talent.”
