What sources close to Tottenham have been saying about Timo Werner and Heung-Min Son

Sources close to Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly indicated that Timo Werner’s playing time will not be dependent on Heung-Min Son.

Tottenham officially announced the signing of Timo Werner on a six-month loan deal yesterday.

Spurs will have the option to buy the German international for a fee worth around £14 million this summer, claims .

It’s a move that has raised eyebrows but makes sense from Tottenham’s point of view given the need for attacking reinforcements.

Indeed, Manor Solomon is targeting a return to action against Manchester City later this month.

But Ivan Perisic remains sidelined and Heung-Min Son is away at the Asian Cup, which could keep him occupied until mid-February.

Werner will be able to provide competition across the frontline in Son’s absence and the has shared what sources have said about the 27-year-old’s playing time.

The Mail claims that ‘multiple sources’ have suggested that Werner’s chances of regular minutes under Postecoglou do not depend on Son’s absence.

While the German is viewed very much as a short-term signing at this stage, he looks set to get a real opportunity to shine at Spurs.

Werner’s record in front of goal this term leaves a lot to be desired. The forward has netted just two times in eight Bundesliga appearances.

He’s been forced to play a lesser role at Leipzig this season and will be desperate to force his way back into Germany’s squad ahead of the Euros.

While Werner struggled during his last spell in the Premier League with Chelsea, he still managed 44 goal contributions in 89 games in what was the worst period of his career.

This feels like an astute move from Tottenham and Werner’s electric pace should suit Postecoglou’s demands from his attackers.

It will also provide them another option up front and on the left-hand side while Son is away at the Asian Cup. Yet, it seems he could also be in line to play alongside the South Korean at certain points this season.
