What sources close to Antonio Nusa and Club Brugge have said about Tottenham move recently

Journalist Ben Jacobs has shared what sources close to Club Brugge and Antonio Nusa have said about a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Jacobs has been discussing Tottenham’s interest in the Norwegian starlet and claims the north Londoners are in ‘advanced’ talks over a move.

Antonio Nusa has emerged as Spurs’ top target in recent days as Ange Postecoglou’s men look to beat the likes of Chelsea to his signature.

Tottenham’s move for Nusa is reportedly the ‘furthest down the line’ when it comes to potential incomings in January.

It’s been widely reported that should Nusa complete a move to Spurs, he would remain at Club Brugge until the end of the season.

Now, Jacobs has told the that sources close to the player and Brugge have insisted the player is unlikely to leave unless he remains in Belgium until the summer.

What sources close to Nusa and Club Brugge has said about January Tottenham move

Jacobs shared an update on Tottenham’s interest in Nusa and claims they are confident a deal for the 18-year-old won’t be hijacked.

With the likes of Chelsea said to be keen, Spurs have the advantage due to their willingness to allow Nusa to remain at Brugge for the rest of the campaign.

“They realise some other clubs can’t move [for Nusa],” the journalist said. “Newcastle don’t have £30 million and even in a structure that’s a loan until the end of the season and ultimately returning to the parent club, whether that’s Spurs or Newcastle, you still have to structure the deal in way where if you buy, you buy.

“So as a consequence, unless it’s structured as a loan with obligation if it’s a buy and then a loan back, there’ll likely be a first instalment and I don’t think that Newcastle have that kind of money at this stage.

“It’s a different story as you say if Miguel Almiron leaves but right now, I broke an exclusive that said Al-shabab had agreed with Newcastle but there’s no agreement with Almiron and all indications are that nobody’s actually approached the player side yet, the Saudi dealmakers have gone to the club first.

“So, Almiron may turn around and say ‘no thank you’ and that’s the end of the matter but I think Tottenham are quite confident that they’re not going to get hijacked by a Premier League rival at this stage.

“Chelsea are the ones to watch because Chelsea came quite close to signing Nusa towards the back end of the summer but if Chelsea buy they, again, would like to now.

“So it is quite clever by Spurs to be saying to Brugge we’ll do this on your terms if we can get it over the line financially, we’re not fussed if we don’t have him to play for us in the month of January. What we’re looking for is to secure him for the summer and if they can do that, you might find that a Chelsea say we’re not going to bother reigniting our interest because we can’t get him right now.

“It’s guaranteed to me by sources close to the player and by those within the Club Brugge hierarchy that they’re not looking to do anything unless they can keep the player until the end of the season.”

Jacobs added: “Tottenham have advanced this. Nothing is done yet as far as I’m aware.

“I’ll put in some further inquiries either this evening or tomorrow but as you rightly say, it’s somewhere in the region of a 27 to 30 million package and the initial structure being discussed was a buy with loan back.

“But that could change to simply a pre-agreed deal for the summer or potentially a opportunity to do a structure that sort of still benefits I think Brugge.”

“All I can tell you is it’s advanced but the point is that were Brugge to entertain a sale now, then they would basically want an astronomical fee.

“Tottenham wouldn’t pay the astronomical fee so their only option would be to say we’ll stagger it as a loan with obligation to spread the cost and then Brugge would say we still want the same number but we’ll let you do it as a loan fee and then an obligation at the end of that to get to this astronomical number because we’re giving you the player now and in the early stages all these different structures were perhaps discussed.

“But again, to reiterate, the Brugge side were clear pretty much from day one and the player side they don’t feel midseason is the right time to move. So I think this will just be about structure and there is a realistic chance this one gets done.

“But at the moment I can only confirm that the talks are ongoing and advanced rather than anything is agreed.

“The beauty is that we’re at the stage of the window where it can change within a minute an hour a day because there’s only about a week left of the window.”

If Spurs managed to pull off a deal for Nusa, this could prove to be an inspired piece of business from the north London club.

The Brugge starlet has attracted interest from a host of top clubs after an impressive spell in Belgium.

But it would appear that Tottenham’s willingness to move quickly and allow Nusa to stay at Brugge has given them the upper hand at the moment.

Of course, they have also done similar deals for Destiny Udogie and Pape Matar Sarr in recent years, with both players becoming key figures under Postecoglou this term.
