What Russell Martin said to Taylor Harwood-Bellis on Southampton return as footage emerges after England goal

Taylor Harwood-Bellis made a name for himself during the international break.

The Southampton No.6 made his debut for England during the 5-0 win against the Republic of Ireland at Wembl𓆏ey, replacing Kyle Walker in the 62nd minute.

It was a dream debut for Harwood-Bellis, who even managed to score just 17 minutes 💙into his first app🐻earance for England with a thumping header, following a fine cross from Jude Bellingham.

It is nothing less tha🌄n the 22-year-old deserves for an impressive 2024/25 campaign so far.

After Taylor Harwood-Bellis returned to Southampton following his exploits on international duty, he was met with a five-word comment from Russell Martin.

What Russell Martin said to Taylor Harwood-Bellis

When g🐻reeting every player into a team meeting, Martin could be seen grabbing Harwood-Bellis, pulling him in for a hug while saying: “Hello mate, well done son!”

The 38-year-old then made further comments once every player was sat down, adding: “Congratulations to Taylor. England debut and a goal, w꧟hich Rhino (Ryan Manning) played his part in, kindly for his teammate.

“The last Saints player to 🅰do that, I played my part in Rhino, Rickie Lambert, so very good. Really pleased for you mate, you 🍎deserve it.”

Martin is, of course, referring to the time Lambert scored ⭕꧟for England in a 3-2 win against Scotland with his first ever touch in international football, a game where the Southampton boss was playing in defence for the Tartan Army.

Southampton No.6 has blossomed under Russell Martin

As Martin said, Harwood-Bellis, who Leeds once wanted, does “deserve” recognition for h🦩is achievements on England duty, but so﷽ does the Southampton boss.

It was Martin who brought the central defender to St Mary’s when initially signing him on loan from Manchester City back in the summer of 2023, showing enough faith in the youngster to even agree on a £20m obligation to buy him permanently if promotion was secured.

While the 2024/25 campaign has been a tough one with Southampton sitting bottom of the Premier League, Martin has done a fine job in developing Harwood-Bellis, who Pep Guar🐼diola called exceptional.

Hopefully, whatever happens this season, he will remain a Southaജmpton player for many ye🍸ars to come, and if not, he will at least secure the Saints a huge profit on that £20m investment.
