What Ruben Amorim said about Luke Shaw after seeing him in the gym at Man United

Manchester United recorded their first defeat under Ruben Amorim on Wednesday night in their away trip to face Arsenal.

As many may have expected, it has been a mixed start for Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor with so many games coming so quickly.

Two second-half goals proved the difference on Wednesday night with Amorim admitting set pieces were an issue for Man United.

Man United remain in the bottom half of the table as the new regime looks to get their feet under the table ahead of the January window.

There have been some fairly significant changes made at Old Trafford since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover earlier in the year.

But Amorim is still waiting to see some of his first-team players to return from the injury table since his arrival.

What Ruben Amorim has said about Luke Shaw at Man United

Earlier this week, Luke Shaw shared an injury setback update as his long-awaited return is set to go on even longer.

However, Shaw has said he is working on his rehabilitation as he looks to make a full recovery amid his disappointment in watching from the sidelines.

Speaking to the media after the game on Wednesday night, Amorim admitted he’d been impressed with what he’d seen from Shaw back at Carrington.

“Since I arrived I see Luke Shaw working a lot in the gym and working a lot on the pitch. If he continues that behaviour, he is a top player and we need him,” Amorim said after the Arsenal loss.

“We control the load during the games and training, he was losing weight, doing everything right”.

Stan Collymore thinks United should sell Shaw if he is unable to compete on a regular basis, but it is apparent Amorim has high hopes for the left-back.

Amorim needs a long-term Shaw successor

Amorim has failed to rule out a potential return to the squad for Shaw with the Portuguese manager speaking incredibly positively about the Englishman.

No matter how long he needs, I will be with him. We will help him to return,” he said. Not just Manchester United, but your national team needs a guy like Luke Shaw!”

However, Shaw has now missed around four and a half years worth of football due to various injury issues with the majority coming at Old Trafford.

Man United are eyeing RB Leipzig’s David Raum with the left-back being viewed as a great fit for Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.

Given United do not have a left-back who has nailed down the spot, it should be a position being targeted ahead of the January window.
