What Reece James has decided about his future as Chelsea plot January move for a defender

Chelsea captain Reece James’ career has stagnated in recent seasons due to his rotten luck with injuries.

♒The England international is one of the best right-backs in the world when fully fit but has played just 11 times in all competitions for the Blues since the start of last season, a stat that sums up his abysmal injury record.

The 24-year-old is yet to feature under new manager Enzo Maresca🐎, having suffered an injury setback in pre-season, and in recent weeks, there have been reports that he is considering his future at the club.

James was linked with a move to Barcelona꧋ earlier this week with the Catalan club on the lookout for a right-back.

However, if reports from England are to be believed, the Chelsea captain wants to stay put at Stamford Bridge.

According to , James🦩 has no burning desire to leave the club as he works his way back up to full fitness.

✱The Blues hierarchy are believed to be behind the 24-year-old and want to help him return to his best this season as they hold him in high regard.

ꦆThe report also states that while James doesn’t want to leave, Chelsea will look to scour the transfer market in January for a versatile player who can play on both flanks as the England international continues his recovery from injury.

Chelsea have another fantastic right-back in Malo Gusto𒐪, but the Frenchman – much like James – has had to battle with his fair share of injury concerns in recent weeks, which has potentially forced the Blues’ hand.

What next for Reece James?

൩To get back onto the pitch and play football – simple.

🎉James has missed far too much football in recent seasons and runs the risk of being a forgotten man if he doesn’t prove his fitness this season.

꧙When Chelsea won the UEFA Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, the explosive right-back was hailed as one of the best players in the world in his position and was also Gareth Southgate’s preferred candidate ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker for England.

ꦜHowever, his torrid time with injuries has seen him miss 129 games across all competitions since his debut in 2019, which simply isn’t good enough for a player regardless of how talented he may be.

✤Chelsea need to be cautious with James and even if he returns to full fitness, they must use him sparingly as his career so far suggests he always runs the risk of picking up injuries.
