What Real Sociedad’s manager did to convince Martin Zubimendi to reject Liverpool

Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, yet a deal to sign the midfielder has now collapsed.

The Spanish international emerged in recent days as a top target for the Reds, with Liverpool pushing hard to sign Zubimendiꦐ as Arne Slot’s first-ever signing as manager of the Merseyside giants.

With Liverpool facing problems to sign Zubimendi♕, it’s no real surprise that the transfer ultimately fell through, with the Anfield side now back to square one when it comes to landing their first deal of the summer window.

Yet Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil seemingly played a role in keeping Zubimendi in the Basque Country.

Alguacil charm offensive convinced Zubimendi to reject Liverpool move

According to , the Sociedad manager went into overdrive to try and convince Zubimendi to stay, with Alguacil holding several meetings with the Liverpool💧 target and touching on the midfielder’s love for his boyhood club and hometown.

☂With Zubimendi ultimately rejecting a move to Liverpool, it’s clear that the tactic worked, with the Reds now back in the hunt for a new central midfielder just a few days before the start of the new Premier League season.

🍰Indeed, it was only a few days ago when Zubimendi to Liverpool felt like a sure-bet, with the Reds coming out of the woods in a big way to land a signing that many top clubs would have been envious about.

✱However, Zubimendi now looks set to remain with Sociedad until the end of the season, and Liverpool need to return to the drawing board on who will be signed with just under two weeks of the transfer window left to go.

Zubimendi could decide to leave Sociedad next year

ꦚZubimendi’s decision to remain with Sociedad after arguably the best year in the midfielder’s career is a bold one, yet it doesn’t restrict the Spanish interested from ever leaving the La Liga side.

ꩵAs we know, Zubimendi is still quite young at 25-years-old, with the midfielder clearly having a huge attachment to Sociedad, the club the Basque star has spent his entire career.
