What Porto’s Pepe was spotted doing to Arsenal fans after making crunching tackle in extra time last night

Porto’s Pepe was spotted celebrating in front of the Arsenal fans after making a crunching tackle in extra time last night.

Arsenal booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating Porto on penalties.

David Raya proved to be the hero on the night as he made two excellent saves to deny the Portuguese giants during the shootout.

The Gunners’ four penalty-takers also stepped up and emphatically finished their spot-kicks to give Porto’s goalkeeper no chance.

But Porto gave a good account of themselves over 120 minutes last night and in particular, Pepe put in a solid display at the back.

At 41, the Real Madrid legend is showing no signs of slowing down and he was certainly delighted after tackling Gabriel Jesus in extra time.

In the 111th minute of the game, Arsenal were searching for a second goal to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Jesus played a quick one-two with Kai Havertz down the left-hand side but as the Brazilian picked up the ball once again, he was met with a crunching tackle from Pepe.

The centre-back then turned around and celebrated in front of the Arsenal supporters, which was picked up on by commentator Darren Fletcher.

“Good defending by Pepe and look at that to the Arsenal supporters,” he said.

“He won’t get any support there but he’s going to celebrate all the same. He’s absolutely thriving on the atmosphere out there, Pepe.”

You can only admire what Pepe is doing at his age at the very top level of football.

The defender put in a solid performance last night and his experience helped Porto hand Arsenal a tough evening.

Many expected the Gunners to pick up a comfortable win on Tuesday evening but that certainly didn’t prove to be the case.

Arsenal had their moments and they produced a real moment of quality for Leandro Trossard’s opener.

But Porto defended well on the whole and Pepe was key to what was a brilliant defensive performance from the Portuguese giants.
