What Pedro Porro has said to Micky van de Ven after what he did in Tottenham’s win over Everton

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024/25 campaign was kicked into life on Saturday afternoon with a stunning win over Everton.

Ange Postecoglou had to endure a frustrating draw away to Leicester City in their season opener which saw Tottenham squander their opportunities in front of goal.

That was not the case on Saturday against the Toffees with Spurs putting four past Jordan Pickford in the Everton net.

It was a solid team display from the north Londoners with just about all of their players putting on a show in N17.

Heung-min Son was able to get two goals as he opened his account for the season with Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero also scoring for the first time this term.

But it is two of the defenders in Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven who were involved in a joking interaction after the victory on Saturday.

What Pedro Porro said to Micky van de Ven after Tottenham’s victory over Everton

Although the Dutch defender did not get on the scoresheet, Van de Ven did impress Alan Shearer with his assist for Son’s second goal.

The Tottenham manager was also wowed as Postecoglou hailed Van de Ven as ‘special’ after he made the run from his own box to provide Son with the assist.

And it was clear the 22-year-old’s teammates were also impressed with what they saw from the centre-back.

Van de Ven’s immense pace has been well documented and it is apparent there are some jealous teammates of the Dutchman’s incredible attribute.

Taking to Instagram after the game, Van de Ven posted a number of photos with the caption: ‘A team performance to be proud of! Happy to be back home.’

To which a number of Tottenham players replied, Destiny Udogie simply said: ‘Vrooommm’.

Whilst Porro jokingly requested Van de Ven to slow down, he said: ‘Can you stop running? Thanks.’

Tottenham’s defence needs to step up this season

On paper, there is probably not many teams in the Premier League who have a stronger back four than Tottenham.

Already this season, Spurs have shown their defenders are capable of providing a real attacking threat with Porro and Romero having found the back of the net and Van de Ven offering an assist.

However, there will be major questions as to whether Spurs can tighten up their defensive record having conceded 61 times last season.

Spurs have made a stronger start to the new season with a clean sheet and just one goal conceded across their opening two games.

But the real test is going to come over the next few weeks with a trip to Newcastle – where they’ve conceded for fun recently – and the North London Derby to come.
