What ‘one source’ is saying Trent Alexander-Arnold has done at Liverpool before agreeing to join Real Madrid

Trent Alexander-Arnold was in the headlines again this weekend.

Indeed, Alexander-Arnold has been a key talking point this season as the right-back is set to join Real Madrid.

However, at the weekend he made headlines for the right reasons as he scored the winning goal against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Alexander-Arnold earned praise after his goal, but, inevitably, talk quickly turned back towards his future.

Speaking on ESPN, James Olley has been discussing Alexander-Arnold’s future, and he says that he’s been told the defender has actually rejected two contracts from Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has rejected two contract offers from Liverpool

Olley shared what he’s heard about Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool.

The journalist says he’s been told the defender has rejected two offers from Liverpool, claiming that the Reds actually thought they were close to getting a deal agreed at one point.

“One source told me that he has already turned down two contracts from Liverpool. I don’t know if that’s 100% correct, but I have heard that suggestion repeatedly that Liverpool have tried to meet him in the middle, and he hasn’t gone there,” Olley said.

“They thought they were close a couple of times and he was on the brink of saying yes, but suddenly the terms changed and they were back to square one. I’m sure this will come out on the wash over the next few months.”

High-profile players to leave Liverpool for free

Alexander-Arnold’s mind appears to be made up, he wants to leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.

Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid, but he must be warned, the grass isn’t always greener.

Indeed, a few players over the years have decided to run their contracts down at Liverpool, and that rarely works out.

Roberto FirminoAl-AhliInternational career over, playing in obscure league

Georginio Wijnaldum rejected new contract offers at Liverpool, leaving to join PSG, but that didn’t work out well for the Dutchman.

Meanwhile, Emre Can didn’t have a great time at Juventus after leaving Liverpool for free either.

Roberto Firmino has faded into obscurity since departing Liverpool on a free transfer too.

Of course, Steve McManaman is an exception to this rule as he enjoyed great success at Real Madrid, but there’s no guarantee that Alexander-Arnold will have that same success.

It’s been proven time and time again over the years that leaving Liverpool is a risk, and it’s a risk that doesn’t often pay off.
