What Newcastle United may have to do if they want Fabian Schar to sign a new contract

EXCLUSIVE with Graeme Bailey.

Fabian Schar ha𒅌s been one of Newcastle’s more important players this sea✨son.

An opening-day red card against Southampton delayed Schar’s start to the campaign, but since his return to the XI, he’s been a vital component of Eddie Howe’s team.

With Sven Botman out injured, Schar has been the leader at the back for Newcastle, and his good performances may be set to be rewarded with a new deal as the defender enters the fina♔l stretch of his contract.

However, if Newcastle want to keep hold of Schar, they may have to make him a serious offer that will guarant൩ee his future for years 🦩to come.

What Newcastle need to do to keep Fabian Schar

TBR Football understan⛎ds Newcastle United may have to 🌳offer Fabian Schar a ‘multi-year’ contract to keep him at St James’ Park.

The Swiss international has been a real stalwart for Newcastle in rece🎉nt years, playing nearly 200 games for the club since arriving from Deportivo La Coruna for £4m in 2018.

Last Janua😼ry he penned a 12-month extension and TBR Footb꧂all understands that Newcastle’s initial plan was to once again extend the 32-year-old by another season.

However, TBR Football understands that the defender i♔s generating interest from elsewhere including from some Premier League rivals.

Schar is understood to be extremely happy on Tyneside and he has become something of 🦋a cult figure and we are told it would take a major offer to prise him away.

We are told that th🌄ere is interest across the Middle East from both the Saudi Pro League and Qatar.

However, there is interest within Europe with clubs in Italy and France keen, as well as clubs in Engꦿland.

Schar, who has decided to quit international fꦆootball at the start of this season, believes he still has♔ a number of years left at the top level.

Schar almost left Newcastle in 2022

Fabian Schar has been here before.

Indeed, for some reason, Newcastle often leave the Swiss defender’s contract renewals until la🦹te in th𝓀e day.

Back in 2022, Schar renewed his deal just a few months before it was set to expire, and Schar even admitted he almost left the club.

“The situation was completely different. Not just for me but the whol❀e team. You see the start of the season and I🐼 knew that my contract was finished this summer,” Schar said.

“I was thinking: ‘what’s happening now?’ bec🦋ause when I’m not playing💫 I obviously had to maybe get a new chance somewhere else.

“It was a difficult situation for me, but like I said, since the last few months so maybe things ha💯ve changed. New owners, new manager and the team is doing well.

“I’m just focusing on the good things n🦋ow and the last few months have been so amazing for me personally and I’m so happy to continue.”

Schar loves it at Newcastle, but at the age of 32, the Magpies need to decide whether or not it’s worth offering the defender a multi-year contract. After all, Newcastle still have eyes on signing Marc Guehi at some point in the future.
