What Newcastle insiders are saying about Alexander Isak’s future as Liverpool plot record bid

TBR Football can exclusively confirm what Newcastle United insiders are saying behind the scenes about Alexander Isak’s future amid serious interest in Liverpool.

Alexander Isak has blown the summer transfer window wide open by expressing a desire to leave Newcastle this summer, which has put the likes of Liverpool on red alert.

Isak has gone from strength to strength at Newcastle, making a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous strikers.

TBR Football can also confirm what Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and club co-owner Jamie Reuben have now done as the situation develops further.

Newcastle hierarchy split over Alexander Isak future amid Liverpool interest

Al-Rumayyan and Reuben have become involved in the conversations about Isak’s future, sources have confirmed to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Newcastle’s hierarchy have learned in the last few weeks that Isak has not only rejected a potential new contract but confirmed that he wanted to look at other options.

This came just days after Liverpool made an approach for the Swedish superstar, and included a message they would be willing to pay a British record £120million.

Newcastle have been consistent in their stance that Isak is not for sale, but now the issues have become public, we are told that some within the club accept that they can’t keep him.

A new contract could turn things around, but as TBR Football revealed, Isak asked for a salary in the region of £300,000-a-week which is out of their scope.

We can now confirm that head coach Eddie Howe is backing the club’s stance, and he has been involved in the talks that have included Al-Rumayyan and Reuben.

“The next few days are going to be important – I am told there are differing opinions within the club over Isak’s future,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“Whilst some are saying he has to stay, there are some that point out that you can’t keep a player that does not want to be at the club.”

The striker Newcastle are trying to sign amid Alexander Isak saga

As we previously revealed, Newcastle are making plans that could see Isak replaced with talks ongoing over Benjamin Sesko.

However, club sources have again told TBR Football that at no point have they confirmed Sesko would be a direct replacement for Isak.

Sesko is available to move this summer as long as RB Leipzig’s asking price of around £70million is met, and Newcastle now need to persuade the player that they’re the right fit for him.

The Magpies’ record spend for one player is £63million, but an initial £61million fee for Sesko plus add-ons could see the Isak record broken.
