What Newcastle have now decided to do with Alexander Isak amid Arsenal and Chelsea links

TBR Football can exclusively confirm what Newcastle have now decided to do with Alexander Isak amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.

Isak has enjoyed a spectacular season for Newcastle, registering 17 goals in the Premier League and 19 in all competitions.

Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Isak, while TBR Football revealed in September that Chelsea were interested in Isak’s signature as far back as in the summer.

Now, Newcastle have decided to take action regarding their talisman’s future as interest in his signature continues to increase.

Newcastle planning new Alexander Isak contract talks

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Newcastle are looking to open talks and agree a new contract with Alexander Isak before the end of the season.

Newcastle and Isak’s camp had held talks last year but they were shelved.

As TBR Football revealed at the time, Isak’s camp were shocked and taken aback by Newcastle’s decision, but the Swede has carried on with another top-class campaign.

Isak is one of the most talked about strikers in Europe, and he is one of Arsenal’s top targets heading into the summer and has been watched by Barcelona.

Newcastle, though, are insistent that they do not want to lose Isak – recognising he is one of the top strikers in the world.

However, despite the fact Isak is contracted to 2028 – he is not one of Newcastle’s highest paid players and they realise a new deal is required.

To do so Newcastle will have to smash their wage structure as Isak will warrant a deal in excess of £200,000.

TBR Football understands that Isak himself is open to a new deal but would ideally like Newcastle to be playing Champions League football.

That said Newcastle want to cut out any risk of losing Isak and ready to open talks before the summer with the hope of convincing him that his long-term future is on Tyneside.

It remains to be seen if Isak will be persuaded to sign before the summer or not.

What Arsenal or Chelsea would be getting from Isak

When it comes to any kind of transfer speculation regarding any player, one of the most important things to try and determine is whether said player can deliver in the Premier League.

With Isak, it’s clear to see what he can do in the Premier League. He’s made a name for himself as one of the best strikers in the country, if not the whole world.

Paul Merson recently said Isak would take Arsenal or Chelsea to the next level if either club was to sign him.

“There is no doubt that all the top clubs will want to sign him,” said Merson.

“With Financial Fair Play (FFP) also coming into the picture, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle can hold on to him.

“If Arsenal signed Isak, I would be shocked if they don’t end up winning the Premier League.

“The same goes for Chelsea, it will seal that top four place and take them to the next level!”
