What Max Weiss to Burnley means for Newcastle United and James Trafford, sources share update from recent hours

TBR Football can exclusively reveal the latest on Newcastle’s pursuit of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

Newcastle have been in search of a new goalkeeper, as they look to upgrade on current keeper Nick Pope.

The Toon have already missed out on Joan Garcia, who turned down an offer from the Magpies to join Barcelona.

Another name linked is Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with TBR Football recently reporting ter Stegen has been offered to Newcastle and several other Premier League clubs.

James Trafford is another player the Magpies are keen on signing; however, TBR Football previously reported that Newcastle are not willing to meet Burnley’s asking price.

Newcastle facing difficulty signing James Trafford despite Burnley signing Max Weiss

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has shared the latest on the goalkeeper, revealing that, as per what he’s been told by sources in ‘recent hours’, Burnley are asking for more than £30m for Trafford.

The newly promoted side are under no pressure to sell the 22-year-old and will not sell him for a bargain fee.

As per TBR Football, Newcastle are finding it hard to negotiate with Burnley who are happy to keep Trafford, who is widely regarded as England’s next number one keeper.

The Magpies were said to be hoping that they wouldn’t get promoted, as that would have helped them secure Trafford easily.

Burnley have signed German goalkeeper Max Weiss, with many thinking they are preparing for Trafford’s departure.

However, TBR Football are told that Weiss is likely to be number two, if not loaned out, but he is not their new number one.

Other options for Newcastle if they miss out on James Trafford

Newcastle continue to try to sign Trafford, having been after him since last summer; however, if they do miss out on him, there are other options available as well.

TBR Football understands Newcastle have looked at other goalkeepers, including Guillaume Restes, the French U21 keeper, Lucas Chevalier, and Aaron Ramsdale.

While a move for Ramsdale is now unlikely, other options remain on the table.

Whether Newcastle are successful in signing Trafford or not, they will go into the new season with a new number as Eddie Howe feels it is a position that needs to be improved upon.
