A report has shared what many in the industry think of Manchester United deciding to target Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director.

It appears that Manchester United are now stepping up their push to bring the 52-year-old to Old Trafford.

Dan Ashworth has informed Newcastle United that he has received an approach from Manchester United, according to . The report notes however, that the two clubs are yet to hold any talks over the 52-year-old, with the Magpies due compensation if the Red Devils are going to be able to get him working for them straight away.

There have been suggestions that Manchester United and Newcastle could agree a deal for Ashworth next week, with the likes of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes potential candidates to replace him on Tyneside.

But clearly, it would be a big blow for Newcastle to lose Ashworth. And it seems that some will see it as a real coup for Manchester United to get him.

According to the report from The Athletic, many in the industry feel that Ashworth is ideal for Manchester United.

It would be a real statement from Manchester United to bring Ashworth in. There appears to be reason for cautious optimism on and off the Old Trafford pitch, right now. And Ashworth has got an incredibly impressive CV behind him.

It seemed significant that Newcastle brought him in following their game-changing takeover. And he has received plaudits for the work done at the likes of West Brom, England and Brighton.

Manchester United fans have reason to be hopeful following Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ arrival. The likes of Sir Dave Brailsford and Omar Berrada look set to play key roles in the club’s future.

And Ashworth is seemingly keen to become one of the next figures to sign up.
