What Liverpool players have honestly felt about Hugo Ekitike in training amid Alexander Isak links

TBR Football can exclusively reveal how Hugo Ekitike has fared in Liverpool training as the Reds continue to dream of signing Alexander Isak.

Arne Slot proved his worth by winning the Premier League title in his debut season, and FSG have backed him immensely in the transfer market.

The Reds have already signed Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Ekitike, and the fact that they are still prepared to sign Isak shows serious intent.

However, Liverpool’s first bid for the Swede was rejected, and the champions are struggling to convince Newcastle to let their star striker leave in the coming weeks.

As things stand, Ekitike will lead Liverpool’s line in the upcoming season.

Exclusive: Hugo Ekitike has impressed Liverpool players in training

Hugo Ekitike had a really good season at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2024/25.

The Frenchman scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists for Die Adler, and he caught the eye of several top clubs in the Premier League and abroad.

Liverpool ended up winning the race for Ekitike, sealing a £79 million deal to beat Newcastle United for his signature.

The 23-year-old has been training with his new teammates since his arrival, and we can reveal that he has made a tremendous impression already.

TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, understands that some Liverpool players actually didn’t expect Ekitike to be this good.

Bailey told TBR: “I’m hearing that Ekitike has slotted in so well, like he has been part of the squad for years. He has been dazzling in many regards.

“I’m told the players are not shocked by his talent, but certainly, some did not really grasp just how good he was.

“Liverpool’s coaches are delighted with him.”

The latest on Alexander Isak after Liverpool’s bid was rejected

Liverpool tabled their opening offer for Isak on Thursday, and Newcastle United quickly turned it down.

The Sweden international would love to move to Anfield, but the Toon are not going to let him leave the club unless it’s on their terms.

For Newcastle to be convinced to sell Isak, TBR can confirm that two things need to happen:

  1. Liverpool should make a much-improved offer
  2. Newcastle should make progress on replacements

TBR can reveal that Newcastle are optimistic of signing Benjamin Sesko after tabling a bid to land the RB Leipzig star this summer.

If that deal goes through, Liverpool’s chances of landing Alexander Isak will increase, but they will still need to table an offer that’s better than their first one.
