What Liverpool plan to do next in the transfer market after signing Hugo Ekitike

TBR Football can now exclusively reveal what Liverpool aim to do next, once the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt is complete.

A big-money move to Anfield is close to materialising for the Frenchman after he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances last season for the Bundesliga outfit.

TBR Football understand Liverpool have bid over €90m (£78m) for Ekitike and an agreement is near.

The 23-year-old is excited to join the Reds, and is understood to believe the move will boost his chances of playing for France at the 2026 World Cup.

Now, TBR Football can reveal what Liverpool hope to do next once Hugo Ekitike officially joins.

Exclusive update as Liverpool plan to sign new centre-back and another forward after Hugo Ekitike

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – can now share that Liverpool are looking to bolster the attacking department and also the defence.

We understand the Reds could even target two new forwards depending on who departs Anfield, with the futures of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa all uncertain.

Alexander Isak remains a target for Liverpool, while Anthony Gordon, Malick Fofana and Rodrygo are also options.

In regards to the desired central defender, it is believed Liverpool are specifically keen to find a young replacement for Jarell Quansah rather than a leading figure like Ibrahima Konate – who is yet to sign a new deal with only 11 months remaining on his current deal.

TBR Football understand progress is being made in the hunt for a new centre-back.

Bailey says: “Liverpool are not finished even with Ekitike, far from it. Even with Ekitike and Wirtz, they want more in the last third but they are happy with how things are going.

“Nunez and Diaz leaving will free up space, and, if as expected they both depart, expect to see another wide forward too, if not another central option.

“That aside, they are still working on a central defender – irrespective of the Konate situation. They did like (Cristhian) Mosquera before Arsenal launched their bid for him. I believe they will sign someone of similar stature to him – someone who can learn from Van Dijk and Konate.”

Malick Fofana has already made intriguing Liverpool revelation

The aforementioned Fofana is an option for Liverpool amid financial issues at Lyon, and interestingly, the Belgian has already previously signalled a desire to move to Anfield.

Speaking to back in March, the 20-year-old’s agent Bobo Fofana said: “The choice of (his) heart would be Liverpool. He has the potential to enter the rotation, and above all, we would like to see him succeed African legends such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and El Hadji Diouf.”
