What lies ahead for Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster as injury return nears?
After almost ten months on the sidelines, Rhian Brewster looks to be close to a return from an ankle ligament injury which curtailed his progress as he appeared to be nearing a Liverpool debut.
The 18-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal in the summer and is clearly still in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, but just what role he will pla seems unclear.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have established themselves as first choice, whilst Xherdan Shaqiri has become first in reserve with Daniel Sturridge also enjoying his finest form at Anfield since 2014.
Beyond that, Dominic Solanke and Divock Origi both remain at the club, despite having limited opportunities to date, and it appears to be initially hard to see where Brewster will find any minutes from.
A January loan move could be the best option, though Klopp has proven to be reluctant to loan out young talents and prefers them to remain around the first team squad.
If Brewster does remain on Merseyside, he may have to stick for FA Cup appearances in the early rounds as he looks to make his first team breakthrough.
