What initially put Tottenham off signing Kevin Danso and the reason why Daniel Levy changed his mind at the last minute

Tottenham Hotspur have waited 33 days to finally make their move for a central defender with a deal being agreed for Lens’ Kevin Danso.

Tottenham have agreed a £21m deal for Danso after they made a very late move to hijack Wolverhampton Wanderers’ bid for the Austrian defend𒁏er.

Juventus and Aston Villa have also shown an interest in Danso this transfer wi♊ndow, however, the North London club look to have won the race.

But why has it taken Daniel Levy so long to make his move to add a new central defender to Ange Postecoglou’s squad given how short they have been in defence?

Why Tottenham have moved so late for Kevin Danso

Tottenham wanted Kevin Danso at the start of⭕ the January transfer window, however,🦩 Lens asking for more than £25 million put them off, according to Ben Jacobs.

But when they heard Wolves had agreed a loan deal for Danso and𒀰 they knew the defender had been keen to joi♔n them, Spurs opted to make their move.

Lens eventually opted to drop their asking price for Danso with it being so late in the ꧟window and the French cluﷺb keen to raise funds this month.

The Lilywhites were able to ca♑pitalise on this by agreeing a £21 million deal for the 26-year-old having become desperate to sign a centre-back.

Tottenham have lost Radu Dragusin to a bad injury which has left them with Micky van de Ven, 🐎Ben Davies and Archie Gray as their only options in central defence.

Tottenham still want another central defender

Tottenham want to add another centre-back in addition to Danso and are exploring loan options, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is a player who Spurs could sign, however, TBR Football can reveal that his preference is to join Aston Vi🌞lla at this stage.

But should the Frenchman change his mind, Spurs would be ready to swoop in withܫ the Blues keen to offload him in the final two days of the window.
