What Everton think of their Anthony Gordon post after backlash from Jamie Carragher
Everton recently caused a stir on social media in regards to a post about Anthony Gordon.
After the Toffees uploaded footage of the England international missing a penalty at Goodison Park in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Newcastle, accompanied by a buzzer sound, Jamie Carragher mocked the Toffees, writing on X (previously known as Twitter): “Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on and off the pitch and who you then sold for £40m. The people’s club!”
Danny Donachie – previously Head of Medical at Everton – also felt the post was out of order.
The result left the Toffees 16th in the Premier League.

Now, the thoughts of Everton have emerged after their controversial post about Anthony Gordon.
Everton see nothing wrong with Anthony Gordon upload
A story from now states that Everton are surprised by the backlash.
It is said that the Toffees feel their post was nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to social media banter, and did not overstep the line.

The situation involving Gordon – who almost joined Liverpool in the summer – has arguably been blown out of proportion due to the messy manner in which he left Goodison Park for Newcastle back in January 2023.
As you may already know, the 23-year-old went on strike at Everton in order to force his move to St James’ Park at the time, as the Toffees looked set for relegation under Sean Dyche in that 2022/23 season, after a poor start with Frank Lampard at the helm.
Why Antony Gordon left Everton for Newcastle
Gordon later told Gary Neville that he simply wanted to fulfil his ambitions, saying: “The whole process was difficult, it was so hard at the time and that whole process led to me being so mentally tough right now. Liverpool’s biggest unity was everyone being together, Scousers taking care of Scousers.
“So, if someone was to leave that environment, not everyone is going to like it and rightly so, but ultimately, I am too ambitious to turn down the opportunity which was presented to me.
“Newcastle were only going one way and looking from the outside they were flying, I think they were fourth when I was signing, so it’s a no brainer.”
Gordon’s decision to leave Everton has since been justified, as he has played UEFA Champions League football for Newcastle, while also appearing at UEFA EURO 2024 for England.
Ultimately – however – no fan likes to see a player go on strike to force an exit from their club, so the Newcastle No.10 should expect a prickly atmosphere whenever he returns to Goodison Park.
