TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Brighton & Hove Albion are fighting hard to keep hold of their highly-respected technical director David Weir.
However, the Seagulls are confident of fending off interest in him.
TBR Football can reveal that Everton have shortlisted Weir to come in as a new sporting director, with the Toffees looking at building a new executive team.
New owners The Friedkin Group are assessing their options which have also seen them land Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear.

In terms of Everton, now The Friedkin Group has agreed terms with Kinnear they will look to push on with their sporting director plans and they are expecting and hoping to talk to Weir.
It is also understood that Weir’s former Brighton colleague Dan Ashworth is also on Everton and Arsenal’s list of options.

What David Weir and Dan Ashworth could bring to Everton
Weir, who is currently Brighton’s technical director, has played a key role in the club’s recent success, helping shape their recruitment strategy.
He stepped into the role after Ashworth’s departure to Newcastle United in February 2022.
Weir played for Everton between 1999 and 2007, making 266 appearances for the club before leaving for Rangers.
Weir then returned to Goodison Park in 2012 in a coaching capacity with the club’s reserve and academy sides.
After coaching spells elsewhere, he moved into the current backroom role he has at Brighton.
Meanwhile, Ashworth has long been in football administration, his first role coming in 2000 when he became Peterborough United’s academy director.
In recent years, he has worked at Brighton, Newcastle and Manchester United, leaving the latter role by mutual consent in December last year.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Manchester United saw Ashworth as “one of the best directors around the world”.
