What Eddie Howe interestingly said about Thomas Tuchel in 2022 ahead of becoming England manager

Newcastle United fans will be breathing a sigh of relief.

Eddie Howe won’t become England’s next manager despite previous speculation because Thomas Tuchel will now land that gig.

♋The German was last in a post in the summer when he was in charge of Bayern Munich, but he left after failing to win the Bundesliga title.

But now, Tuchel will become England’s next manager😼, replacing Gareth Southgate, who resigned after their Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Given that Howe is the highest-performing English coach right now and the fact that he has made a huge difference to Newcastle, then many thought the national gig was his.

What has further sparked that fire is the off-field noise at Newcastle🌃 and suggestions that all is not right in the boardroom.

🐓But this Tuchel news has, at the very least, put an end to the talk of whether Howe will leave St James’ Park to take the reigns of his country.

ꦺWhat’s interesting is Howe’s comments on the Champions League-winning boss back in 2022 when he had just arrived at Newcastle.

ꩵThen-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had just been sanctioned by the UK Government, which was an issue for the London club and Howe expressed his ‘sympathy’ for his counterpart, at the time.

❀Howe lauded Tuchel and how he is an ‘outstanding’ manager and someone who he ‘has got a lot of time for’, as he told .

Eddie Howe praised Thomas Tuchel in 2022

ꦺ“From our perspective, we are very much focused on the game and trying to give our best performance knowing that we are up against an incredible opponent, with brilliant players and an outstanding manager,” said Howe.

𓃲“I have got a lot of time for Thomas. I think he is incredible at what he does and what he has done at Chelsea.”
