What does the future hold for Liverpool’s Emre Can?

Emre Can had Liverpool, and football fans alike, with their jaws on the floor after his spectacular overhead kick against Watford on Monday night. It was an unbelievable piece of skill and ultimately the goal that set apart the two teams apart on the night.

A hopeful ball forward by Lucas Leiva found Can’s run and, with his back to goal, he met the ball with an overhead kick that flew into the top corner; the strike is a firm contender for goal of the season.

It has also been of great importance in the Reds’ top four hopes this season. With all rivals dropping points, three points against Walter Mazzarri’s side gives them a massive boost in their bid to bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

Can was obviously very pleased with his goal and it comes during a period of good form for the Liverpool man. He has found himself in the starting eleven as of late with injuries to English pair Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana. The 23-year-old has really stepped up for his team and has often been their stand-out performer.

There was a period before this where he was coming back from a calf injury and didn’t look sharp or match fit. He had his doubters, but now he’s fully fit, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans are seeing the true Emre Can and what he is capable of.

This is despite the of an apparent contract stand-off. The ex-Leverkusen man is now entering the final year of his current deal and he seems no closer to signing a new one.

Emre Can, at 23-years-old, represents fantastic talent and as his performances have shown of late he is not only a capable squad player, but has also made a case to be in the starting XI as he continues to put his stamp on matches.

Dejan Lovren was recently rewarded with a long-term contract in a troublesome period for the Reds defender. The Croatian hasn’t looked his best recently while Can is in arguably his best period at Liverpool since joining, yet he still hasn’t gained a new deal.

Reds fans will be hoping these issues quickly get resolved, as will Jurgen Klopp, who clearly rates his fellow countryman and will be desperate to keep him at the club.

The midfielder is in a very good Liverpool side with some very talented players and on the brink of Champions League football next season, with good recruitment this summer this side could really push on within the League and Europe. Can could form a key part in a very positive period for the Reds.
