What Daniel Levy did to ensure Archie Gray chose Tottenham over Brentford

Tottenham have now secured their first signing of the summer after Archie Gray joined from Leeds.

The deal was far from straightforward, as the 18-year-old looked almost certain to become a Brentford player, even undergoing a medical with the Bees before changing his mind.

Now, it has been revealed what Daniel Levy and Johan Lange did to ensure Archie Gray ended up at Tottenham

How Daniel Levy and Johan Lange lured Archie Gray to Spurs

A story from now shares plenty of details regarding how Tottenham hijacked the teenager’s move to Brentford, with Levy – Chairman of Spurs – and Lange, Director of Football, playing a key role.

It is said that the latter spent weeks speaking to Gray’s representatives on a daily basis to try and secure his signature, as the Dane worked overtime on the deal.

The Athletic add that Levy then joined Lange in talks, before a breakthrough was finally made in recent days.

Tottenham have paid Leeds around £30m for Gray – with Joe Rodon moving to Elland Road in the opposite direction after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Leeds.

£30m pursuit will be worth Tottenham’s time

In our view, Levy and Lange will look back on this summer and be pleased they made the effort – we believe Gray is bound for stardom.

Alasdair Gold of Football London has already revealed that everybody he speaks to about the Durham-born wonderkid believes he is set to become the next big thing to emerge from English football.

Gray – whose potential was also likened to that of Sergio Aguero by Victor Orta, previously Director of Football at Leeds – is a truly exceptional talent who plays with the maturity of a seasoned veteran.

You only need to have one glance at his confidence when receiving the ball in awkward areas, with his back to opponents, to see why some have likened him to Sergio Busquets – Ange Postecoglou will surely be delighted to have added the England U21 international to his squad.

If Gray is not playing for England by the end of next season, we would be very surprised – he is that good.
