What Cesc Fabregas has said about Kalvin Phillips as former Arsenal star is linked with Leeds job

Como manager Cesc Fabregas is now being considered for a remarkable switch to Leeds United this summer.

Leeds are assessing Daniel Farke’s position as they plan their best route to stay in the Premier League next term.

Farke has previously overseen two unsuccessful seasons with Norwich City in the English top flight — something that might factor into the 49ers’ decision.

That being said, Leeds are considering Fabregas as a possible candidate, even if Como might be confident of keeping the former Arsenal man.

Of course, when considering who Leeds might recruit for their playing staff this stuff, Kalvin Phillips is linked with an Elland Road return.

Cesc Fabregas’ Kalvin Phillips verdict

It might be quite hypothetical for now but perhaps there is a reality where both Fabregas and Phillips would be at Leeds next season.

And in lieu of that possibility, Fabregas previously made some interesting comments about Phillips whilst he was struggling to adapt at Manchester City.

The Spaniard was talking on ‘’ at the start of 2024 and actually compared Phillips’ situation to that of Jack Grealish who also had to make big adjustments under Pep Guardiola.

Speaking about Guardiola initially, Fabregas said: “He is very structured, Pep — he is very meticulous about everything.

“He was coming from Leeds (Phillips). You watch Leeds play and everything is all over the place, so much energy, you go the right, you go to the left, go forward and you defend.

“Pep hates this because, for him, he would say this is very anarchic.

“He likes to have everything under control, with the ball and without the ball. At Leeds, it was completely the opposite.

“I remember Jack Grealish, he was everything at Aston Villa. He could move wherever he wanted, then all of a sudden, you have a coach that tells you no, you stay on the line, you wait for the ball to come.

“He was doing exactly the opposite at Aston Villa, it does take time.”

Leeds need to be perfect in the transfer market

Regardless of who’s in charge, Leeds will surely have a long list of names for the summer ahead when they will need to make significant upgrades to their squad.

Micah Richards loved one Leeds signing last summer, and the club’s recruitment team will need to work relentlessly over the coming months.

In fact, a striker should probably be at the forefront of Leeds’ thinking given that Joel Piroe might struggle to make the step up.

Perhaps Leeds might struggle to sign someone like Liam Delap, but they need to find their own version of the Ipswich Town striker to boost their survival chances.

A difficult job, but one that is certainly possible for a club the size of Leeds.
