What Brendan Rodgers has just admitted publicly could really harm his Celtic players
Celtic’s drop-off in form recently has been really alarming the Celtic supporters.
The team looked sharp, fit and firing on all cylinders after that 6-0 win over Aberdeen just prior to the international break.
But now, after two draws and two defeats, they look a shadow of the Celtic team that ran riot last season collecting a treble despite still having most of the players involved in that run still at the club.
So why the sudden drop in performance? Is it the defeats in the Champions League that’s harmed their confidence? The injuries to import first-team players? Or does the team just need freshened up?
I think it’s something more obvious than that and it’s been staring us in the face for weeks.
Brendan Rodgers must stop bemoaning the lack of quality at Celtic
Think about it. If you were going to your work every day and results or performances were not going your way and your manager kept going on about how the team that is working for him is not good enough, how would you feel?
Regardless of whether it’s football or in a shop or in the local fast food takeaway, constantly being told that your team doesn’t have sufficient quality to get the results that you need is demoralising.
And Rodgers has done that at almost every poor result he has had this season. It started off with the Champions League. Losing to the likes of Lazio and Atletico Madrid sparked it all off.
Then came the win over Feyenoord. Even though it ended a six-year wait for a win in the competition, Rodgers still took the opportunity to go on about adding players.
The biggest European result to have happened at Celtic in a long time and he couldn’t let the players enjoy it.
For me, it’s little wonder the performances are short in quality. Now I’m not for a second suggesting he’s lost the Celtic dressing room.

Not by a long shot but as someone who has run a business with over 100 employees before, even I know that if I publicly called them out every time profit dropped or shift performances slacked, they would quickly lose motivation to work.
Rodgers now needs to keep these thoughts private between himself and the Celtic board. Stop talking about it in the media and get in with working with the players at your disposal.
That’s why he’s the highest-paid manager in Celtic’s history. The point has been made, it’s time to drop it.
