What Bayern Munich have now done with Mathys Tel after Manchester United approach

Manchester United have leapt into action to try and bring Mathys Tel to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich.

No sooner had Tel rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s approach, the Red Devils stepped up their efforts to sign the 19-year-old.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed that Manchester United made Tel an “attractive option to play straight away”.

While Tel is reported to have told Tottenham that he’s planning to stay at Bayern, the likes of Manchester United aren’t giving up just yet.

And now, there has been an intriguing development in the Tel saga which suggests a move may still be on the cards.

Mathys Tel missing from latest Bayern Munich matchday squad

Bayern were in Bundesliga action against Holstein Kiel on Saturday, and Mathys Tel wasn’t even named on the bench.

Fabrizio Romano relayed the news on X, following on from a post from Friday in which he said a loan with buy option could still be a possibility.

Man United remain keen on Tel, although staying at Bayern is also a possibility, added the transfer insider.

Romano also touched upon Tel’s future on his YouTube channel, commenting on Man United’s continued interest and speculating whether Arsenal could also step in.

He said: “There is a possibility for Mathys Tel to continue at Bayern, but my information at this time is that Mathys Tel is still assessing all of his options.

“Especially for a loan with an option to buy, that is still a possibility.

“Instead of going on loan with an obligation to buy, so a permanent transfer to Tottenham, Mathys Tel could be open to a loan with an option to buy.

“Man United are very interested in this formula, let’s see if Arsenal decide to enter too.”

What Tel could bring to Man United

Man United have struggled on the goal front in the league, with just five teams having scored fewer than the Red Devils’ 28 goals.

In addition, Antony has gone on loan to Real Betis, while Marcus Rashford could potentially be on the way to Aston Villa.

With that in mind, Ruben Amorim will be eager to bring in reinforcements, and Tel certainly seems like a good shout for Man United.

Tel, 19, has been an important squad member for Bayern for two-and-a-half years now and has made 83 competitive appearances for the club.

Jacek Kulig has compared Tel to Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry.

Kulig also deemed him a “complete forward” as well as a “well-rounded player who has all the qualities to play on many other positions and attacking roles”.

Meanwhile, the official  website previously likened Tel to Real Madrid and France superstar Kylian Mbappe.

They deemed him an ‘accomplished forward with oodles of pace, dazzling ball skills and a knack for curling spectacular strikes with his cultured right boot’.
