What Arsenal staff member has said about Martin Zubimendi after he’s linked with Liverpool
Martin Zubimendi is making a number of headlines at the moment as Liverpool close in on a move for the midfielder.
Liverpool are said to be incredibly keen on signing Zubimendi, but before the Reds were in this race, Arsenal were the team most strongly linked with the Spaniard.
Indeed, Arsenal have been linked with Zubimendi for the past 18 months, but now, sources within the Emirates are playing down these reports.
According to Dean Jones, speaking on the , sources within Arsenal are now saying that they weren’t in fact that keen on Zubimendi, but, according to Jones, that isn’t the case.
What Arsenal sources are saying about Martin Zubimendi
Jones shared what he’d been told about the Spaniard.
“What is interesting is that Zubimendi was linked to Arsenal earlier in the summer. I spoke to someone at Arsenal yesterday and they said ‘I’m not sure there was actually too much in that, they had a look, but there wasn’t much intent around it.’” Jones said.
“I don’t totally agree with that based on other conversations I had at the start of the summer. I think Arsenal were very interested but they thought Zubimendi was ungettable”

Arsenal were in for Zubimendi
There’s no getting around it, Arsenal were interested in Zubimendi, no matter what these sources are now saying.
Fabrizio Romano noted how much Arsenal wanted Zubimendi, while David Ornstein also said that Arsenal were in for the Spaniard.
As the old saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire, and it’s hard to now buy into the idea that Arsenal weren’t actually that keen on Zubimendi.
It’s no coincidence that these briefings are emerging just as Liverpool close in on this potential move.
Indeed, this may be a case of Arsenal playing down their interest in Zubimendi just to save face as they look to have lost this transfer race to one of their main rivals.
