What Arsenal are now hoping about Martin Odegaard injury ahead of Tottenham clash

Arsenal are currently sweating on the fitness of Martin Odegaard ahead of Sunday’s North London derby clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners will lock horns with Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs in their Premier League encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal risk being without their skipper against Tottenham after he limped off during Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria on Monday evening.

Odegaard suffered what has initially been diagnosed as a sprained ankle following a challenge from Christoph Baumgartner.

The Arsenal star was subsequently seen using crutches to board a plane back to London ahead of undergoing scans.

Now, the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel has provided an update on Odegaard’s situation.

Arsenal hopeful Martin Odegaard won’t be long-term absentee

On Wednesday evening, Mokbel took to X to sum up the key points of his .

The Arsenal captain had to undergo further tests on Wednesday after swelling on his ankle prevented a clear reading and rendered the scan inconclusive.

In the article, Mokbel said “there is hope today’s tests will provide definitive details of the injury”.

Arsenal are also hopeful that Odegaard won’t be a long-term absentee, but they are not looking to put a timescale on his recovery, added the report.

It wasn’t specified whether the Gunners captain would miss the Tottenham game for definite, though ‘it is clear he is a doubt’ for Sunday’s North London derby.

For how long could Odegaard be out of action?

The Daily Mail carried quotes from Ole Sand, Norway’s team doctor, who predicted that Odegaard could be out for around three weeks.

‘Such ankle injuries often take at least three weeks. Anything other than that is just a bonus. And then it can take longer.

‘What we have so far obtained from the MRI examination in London is that there is probably no fracture in the ankle.’

Arsenal will take on Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend, with the game kicking off at 2pm.
