What Arne Slot really wants to happen with Joe Gomez as Liverpool stance revealed

Liverpool have left it late to do their business but there’s not really any pressure on Arne Slot at this moment in time, having taken maximum points from his opening two games.

Of course, fans love to see new players come through the door at their respective clubs, but at Liverpool they only ever welcome new players if they truly value them.

The Reds won’t be bullied into make any moves but one they have decided to make is for a goalkeeper, as Giorgio Mamardashvili looks set to join Arne Slot at Anfield.

However, one saga that has dragged for large parts of this month is the future of Joe Gomez, with reports stating Liverpool were willing to sell Gomez earlier on this month.

And, Alex Crook of TalkSPORT has provided an update on that situation as the deadline creeps closer…

Arne Slot has decided he wants to keep Joe Gomez at Liverpool

The likes of Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa have been credited with interest in Gomez, but nothing looks set to materialise as Arne Slot appears to have had a change of heart.

Writing the Transfer notebook for TalkSPORT, has claimed that Arne Slot is keen to hold onto Joe Gomez in an apparent U-turn.

He goes on to state that the Englishman was considering his options after being left out of the squad for Arne Slot’s first game in charge.

However, should he now stay, Gomez is likely to re-evaluate his position come January depending on how much game-time he gets between now and then.

The right call to keep Joe Gomez at Liverpool?

It always seemed like a slightly risky move to potentially let one of your homegrown players leave with so little time left in the transfer window. And, when you consider the fact that the Reds only have Nathaniel Phillips, Ibrahim Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Jarell Quansah at their disposal, one injury could prove fatal.

Of course, players can make their own decisions and game-time is clearly valued in a football career that doesn’t last forever, but Gomez clearly will get chances as Slot sees something in him. It’s really up to him to knuckle down and prove himself if he is open to staying at the club beyond the deadline.

Liverpool supposedly have replacements lined up for Gomez should he leave, but it’s highly unlikely that there’s a player out there who can slot straight in with Premier League and European experience this late on.
