What Andrea Berta privately thinks about signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves and making him Arsenal’s new striker
Arsenal have had an interest in Wolves striker Matheus Cunha for quite some time now.
The Brazilian has been a star for the Wanderers. He has been magnificent for them, especially this season, having scored 15 goals in all competitions.
Cunha has played a big role in saving Wolves from relegation this term, but the versatile attacker has made it clear that he would like to join a bigger club in the summer.
Arsenal have an interest in Cunha, but there could be a problem.
What Andrea Berta thinks about signing Matheus Cunha as Arsenal’s striker
priority for the upcoming summer transfer window is a new striker.
The Gunners have needed a prolific number nine for years now, and after signing nobody in January, the pressure is on to bring in a top-class forward in the summer.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers over the last few months. Alexander Isak is MIkel Arteta’s dream target, while the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are also being watched by Andrea Berta and his team.
claim that Cunha remains on the Gunners’ radar, but it has been revealed that the Brazilian ‘divides opinion within Arsenal’s recruitment team’.
The report says that new sporting director Berta wants a more traditional number nine at Arsenal this summer, which means Cunha won’t be the big striker signing.
The 25-year-old, however, can play out wide, but Arsenal are looking for someone who ‘has not only offensive output but a strong defensive work ethic’.
The report concludes by saying: “The key to whether Arsenal decide to pursue Cunha will be if they feel he can diversify his game.”

How much will Matheus Cunha cost this summer?
Cunha is very likely to leave Wolves this summer, and Vitor Pereira’s side are well aware of his ambitions to go and play for a bigger club.
The Brazil international signed a new contract in February, and there is a release clause that makes Cunha available for £62.5 million.
That is a lot of money, but reports have claimed that Wolves could accept an offer slightly below Cunha’s release clause to facilitate a move.
Berta knows Cunha from his time at Atletico Madrid, so he would be aware of the fact that the Brazilian is not an out-and-out striker.
But, his versatility makes him a great option, and TBR Football can reveal that Berta has informed Arsenal that he likes Cunha.
Whether that will result in a move in the summer remains to be seen.
